At a glance: Lip-plumping gloss
Promise: ‘Our pout-perfecting Buxom naturally creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips. Infused with 100% pure bareMinerals, it gives a luminous shine with no sticky or tacky feeling.’
Price: £16.50 from the Bare Escentuals website
Packaging: I actually got mine as part of a package so I didn’t get the cardboard box. However, I have seen it at the store and I love it; it’s adorable, cheeky and feminine. As for the tube in itself, it looks great. Simple yet elegant, it looks and feels expensive, and I am quite happy to whip it out in public.
Texture: In the past, I have found glosses to be incredibly sticky and unpleasant to the taste, but this one feels and tastes great. When I first apply it, it tastes slightly like coffee then rather minty, the latter phase being accompanied by a tingling sensation. I believe this is supposed to be linked with the lip-plumping effect.
Colour: I have it in ‘Racquel’ which apparently isn’t available anymore as I couldn’t find it on the website. I think it might have been part of a Fall collection. Nevertheless, I am sure that the shimmering effects are common to the whole range. This one is definitely darker on application than expected from the way it looks in the tube, but I am pleased to say that my friends have commented on how nice the colour looked both on my lips and in the tube.
Results: I have to report that I haven’t seen my lips looking any bigger. I don’t really mind as I wasn’t really interested in that aspect of the product. However, I feel the need to point out that when I tried pioneer Lip Venom by DuWop during a trade show for Beauty professionals back in the early days of pout-enhancing lip glosses, not only did I not get any results either, but I also found the associated tingling sensations to be very unpleasant. This is definitely not an issue with Buxom Lips and I would go as far as to say that it is actually part of the pleasure of using the product. I tend to have quite dry lips but they feel smooth and well-hydrated when I wear it.
Verdict: To say I was pleasantly surprised with this lip gloss is an understatement. It looks, tastes and feels great, the colour is amazing… what else could you ask for? To think that I only ended up with it because it was part of a boxset! I currently use it everyday and will be sure to buy a new tube when I run out as I have definitely adopted it as one my beauty bag staples. This is the product against which I’ll measure all other glosses from now on.
Bottom line: 4.5/5 I am blown away by this product and would give it five out five if it weren’t for the fact that it doesn’t fulfill its limp-plumping promise. Not that I mind.
